Staircase Design InspirationPosted on February 24, 2011 by Martin Preisler Admittedly, I have a weakness for staircases. Probably because the design of a unique staircase, if build right, can make or break a property when it comes to a refurbishment. With this little blog piece, I hope that the reader will come away inspired. I have included a few of the ones we have designed ourselves or have been contracted to supply through architects. Made from steel, glass and solid walnut cladding from one of our very own building sites, this designed staircase is horrendously expensive, but yes, it does look the business, doesn't it ?
Source: Preisler Construction Ltd. Another staircase from one of our projects in Kensington. This is from a five storey mews house. We took the original staircase made of steel, and simply cladded the back panel in veneered walnut and the steps themselves in solid. As the staircase was old, crooked and worn it took two master carpenters eight weeks to complete the 58 steps and 6 landings. It was worth it though.

Usually you would clad all of the step in timber, but in this case they chose to leave it open. Personally I like the raw look, but I am afraid to say that the balustrade does not confirm to UK building regs. Too much space between the spindles.

A well designed steel staircase which looks great and is practical. Well done, Mr. Addadi. (If you read this, I may just call you one of these days to see if you perhaps are in need of a quality builder here in London.)

We were the main contractor for a customer in Notting Hill a few years ago, where we had something very similarly put in. Sadly, I don't have any photos to show from that particular build, so this will have to suffice.
